This book gathers selected paintings and sculptures by Nityan Unnikrishnan. It also offers glimpses—if one looks closely—of the interwoven threads of his decades-long practice as an industrial designer working with crafts, ceramics and furniture. It opens a window to the mind of the artist through pages of his sketchbooks and a conversation. A selection of short essays, some by well-known Indian writers, that were commissioned for his shows, offers further insights.
Nityan Unnikrishnan (b. 1976, Kerala) has had nine solo shows of his work and has been part of several group shows over the past 12 years. Before he began his practice as a painter, he studied industrial design, practised as a ceramic designer, made furniture and worked with traditional artisans across India. This is his first book.
