Natalie Lycops is a Belgian photographer, visual artist, and graphic designer. Her life and work unfold between Belgium and India.
Growing up in the quiet Belgian countryside, she developed a deep connection to the natural world, instilling a sense of slowness, grounding, and oneness. This way of being, and seeing, forms her photographic practice. She is drawn to quiet moments, subtle details, and small wonders that often go unnoticed, as well as dark or eerie atmospheres and things that often only she finds hilarious.
Exploring new places (a mix of escapism and her forever search for beauty), zooming in on details, and scanning for lines and grids help her feel grounded and make sense of the world and her place in it.
What Is Left Behind is a photo series made during these explorations. Each photo captures a moment when something unexpected stopped Natalie in her tracks: something, often a trace of human presence, that doesn’t quite belong.
All photographs in this book were taken between 2019 and 2026, mostly in India and Belgium, with a few taken elsewhere. The project remains ongoing, as long as Natalie keeps wandering.
